Spotlight on… Idgie, Ruthie, and Georgie

These three lovely felines share their home with one dog and their owner AJ aka (Not So) Cynical Knitting Gal! AJ mentioned a while ago that she’d like to post more Whiskers on Wednesday posts… so I hope this is the motivation she needs! Idgie is 10 this year, Ruthie will be 9, and Georgie will be 7 at the end of February.

We adopted Idgie in 1998 after my childhood cat, Poki, died.  Poki (short for Pocahontas) was 17 years old when she passed away.  Idgie was 6 months old when she came into our lives.  She was a spritely (err, hyper?) black and white kitty in the no-kill shelter’s kitten room.  She is still fit and trim, but much more sedate now.  She likes to be on a lap whenever she can, but only (as you can imagine) when she wants it.  She actually sits and waits by our chairs at night waiting for a lap to curl up on.

Ruthie, aka Rudy, Ru Ru, Ruffie…is offspring of the neighborhood “mama cat.”  We were having a barbeque in our back yard about a month after we moved in (in 2000) and my neighbors found three little kittens in their yard.  We found homes for two of them, after feeding them from bottles for a week, and Ruthie came home with us.  She’s a long haired snuggly girl, who has a little attitude that can be alarming at times.

And, finally, Georgie, who we adopted 4 years ago from Harmony House, after losing my beloved Tux.  Georgie was adopted at age 3.  He has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a heart condition) for which we medicate him twice a day.  He is fearless, and very sweet.  The girls don’t get along that well, but Georgie loves everyone.  Idgie and Tux were best buddies and Georgie has done his best to fill those paw prints for Idgie.

These felines live with their pal, Gracie, who is a Golden Retriever with a story (and blog) of her own.

Thank you so much for sharing your family of felines with us! They certainly are full of personality!!
